Olivia : You've been involved in virtually every
aspect of the Adult Entertainment Industry for two decades. Why did you choose
to use your considerable talents in this field?
Annie: Gee...Thanks for the compliment. I simply think that sexuality
is the most interesting subject there is. I'm amazed that EVERYONE doesn't want
to make sexually oriented stuff. It's fascinating. Also, I KNOW that sexuality
is a very important area for our society to look at, learn about, heal about.
We are still suffering from Victorian sex negative attitudes, among other things.
Also, sexuality is something that concerns everyone. We are all born with a sexuality.
For some of us it is a treasure trove of wonderful gifts, and for others it is
a source of fear, suffering, confusion. As a visual artist, I'm always interested
in getting a rise out of people, touching some place in them, sparking thought
and conversation. For me, sex is (can be) DIVINE. A profound spiritual experience.
I'm prostelizing my religion. Sex is also very political. So I'm spreading my
propaganda. The cause nearest and dearest to my heart is sex workers rights, and
destigmatizing sex work. Sex can heal, so I'm promoting my belief that sex can
help people in many ways.
Olivia : There is a ground-swell of women becoming involved in
creating female-friendly erotica/pornography. Do you think that this will have
substantial impact on society at large? Do you feel that this impact will have
positive effects for women?
Annie: Absolutely. I believe that all artistic/creative sexual
expressions are intrinsically a good thing. Porn has until recently been only
in the male bastian, and was kept hidden from "good" women. So often it is as
misogynist as men are. When women make porn, they can enlighten the men. But first
women will learn about themselves making porn. As women pornographers we are just
taking baby steps in a whole new world. Making good porn is a lot more challenging
than you would think.
Olivia : Could you elaborate on your concept of "Medi-bation,"
the blending of the spiritual and the sexual?
Annie: Medibation is to meditate and masturbate at the same time.
Totally relax, relax the body, relax the mind. Let go of thoughts. Be at peace.
Focus on the breath. Focus on the life force pulsing thru the body, the energy
waves. Feel one with the universe. Expand your concousness. Let thoughts come
into the mind, as thoughts do, and gently let them pass through you. Take lots
of time. A half hour is good. Don't be orgasm goal oriented. Eventually you will
have a huge full body orgasm in every chakra. Run pleasure through your body by
stimulating the genitals, nipples, skin, etc. If you have really relaxed and opened
your whole "inner flute", spun all those charkas, and fully let go. After (multiple)
orgasm, relax more. Go deeper. Orgasm again and again. Bask in the afterglow.
Orgasm more. Bask in afterglow. Become the sun, the moon, and the stars. Expand
your entire being It all sounds terribly corny and new age, but the experience
actually feels like what I describe. I like to have big emotional releases. Especially
crying. I have orgasms for all women. I imagine that as I experience pleasure,
I make the world a more pleasure filled place, and heal pain. Have a good trip.
Medibation is like a fantasmagorical and moving drug trip without the drugs. I
might be full of shit, but it works for me.
Olivia : I understand that you are currently attending graduate
school. What are you studying and what are your plans for the future?
Annie: I'm at the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality
in San Francisco. I'm in a PHD program. If, when, I finish, I'll be Dr. Sprinkle--
Sexologist. I like the idea that all big slutty whore porn stars get PhD's.
Olivia : Thank you so much for taking take from your busy schedule
to chat with me.
Annie: My pleasure. I wish you lots of pleasure and sexy fun.
